Matamata is a picturesque rural town nestled at the base of the scenic Kaimai Ranges. Located in the heart of Waikato dairy farming country, Matamata is also well known for its thoroughbred horse breeding, making it an ideal location for a country escape. At present Matamata has a population of 12,000 (6000 rural and 6000 township).

Since the launch of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and subsequent opening of Hobbiton movie set tours, Matamata has seen considerable growth in tourism and has become a vibrant destination for travellers both local and international.
